Our recommendations to Hartland Township, collectively known as the “White Paper,” have been communicated directly to members of the Board and discussed with the Township Manager. These recommendations represent crucial changes aimed at signaling Hartland’s readiness to welcome and support entrepreneurs. By providing the necessary authorizations with minimal regulatory hurdles, Hartland will demonstrate its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business growth.
These recommendations are not merely courtesies but essential steps towards showcasing Hartland’s reliability and support for its business community. The current White Paper detailing our proposals is available for reference here: WHITE PAPER
It is disheartening that many of our suggestions have been overlooked or dismissed. This is especially concerning as we witness businesses like Walmart, Chekkers, and Big Boy retracting their investments in Hartland. Additionally, establishments like Menards, after enduring eight years of regulatory challenges, opted for Novi instead.
Despite repeated surveys conducted by entities such as the Chamber and Hartland Township itself in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2023, which consistently highlighted the oppressive regulatory climate, no substantial changes have been made. Persisting with ineffective regulations despite clear evidence of their adverse impact is reminiscent of the adage about insanity: knowing the problem exists but failing to address it.
The citizens of Hartland rightfully expect accountability from their representatives on the Board. The Supervisor, in collaboration with the Board, appoints the Planning Commission responsible for maintaining official regulations. We urge the Board to initiate a comprehensive review of existing regulations with a clear mandate to prioritize business friendliness and all its associated benefits. WHITE PAPER
